air flow in fire box

Postby HAL9000 » Tue Oct 18, 2011 1:40 am

We recently moved into a home that has a Yukon husky wood burning furnace. The gas option is not setup. We are firing up the furnace for the first time. We have the fire going and everytime we shut the door to the fire box it will die down and go out if we don't open it back up in time. Any ideas on how to have better air flow to the fire box or any suggestions? Thanks

How dry is your wood?
Is there make up air being brought in from outside?
Is the thermostat opening the damper door?

The wood is dry and there is make-up air from the outside. I did figure out that the damper door is not opening and when propped open the fire seems to get the air needed. The damper controls seem to be older then what is currently offered on this website. (The board has a couple lights on the bottom left of the board and the furnace is from the late 70s) Is the only option to upgrade the thermostat and damper controls? Can I prop the damper door open for now? How far open? Thanks for the help.

If you furnace has a grey cabinet you can just replace the circuit board or the solenoid assembly....if you have a green cabinet then you need to replace the versatrol and stat. We offer a 30% forced upgrade discount...it'll run you about $364 for the upgrade. No you can not prop open the door...as a company rep I can not ok that.
