Secondary combustion - does it work?

My Eagle Husky I works fine burning wood but I have never been able to verify if the secondary combustion works or not. If I open or close the disk inlet seems to make no difference, no change in heat output or temp of stack or length of burn, no difference. I have a strong chimney draw and the damp...

Re: Secondary combustion - does it really work?

Keith, how can I confirm that my secondary air system is assembled correctly? If I hold a smoke source near the secondary air disk and open the disk valve, I do not get a strong draw. Is there somewhere in the tubing it could be closed off?

Re: Secondary combustion - does it really work?

Receiving a patent does not require demonstration that it works. Among other things, a number of perpetual motion machines have been patented. So from 1970 to present no one knows of any objective evidence that the secondary combustion design is effective? No engineering testing of the efficiency wi...

Secondary combustion - does it really work?

Secondary combustion is major factor in efficiency of burning wood. In a woodstove with a glass door, it is possible to actually see combustion at the secondary air inlets. Even in wood stoves without a glass door, the onset of secondary combustion is very evident. I have a Vermont Castings stove an...

Burning coal in Eagle Husky I

The Eagle Husky is primarily designed to burn wood - coal fire boxes are typically taller and narrower. However, I have burned coal successfully. The advantage of coal is a longer burn, more than 12 hours instead of 4-5 with wood. The disadvantage is a much greater volume of ash to be removed, 20 ti...
